VICUÑA TREK

On this exciting Vicuña  Trek, you will cross from east to west, traversing the pass situated between two majestic snow-capped volcanoes, Chimborazo and Carihuairazo. As you hike through the pristine moorland of the Chimborazo Reserve, the panoramic views will be nothing short of breathtaking and you will be able to observe the volcanoes in their natural environment. The elevated vantage point will grant you unparalleled views not only of Chimborazo and Carihuairazo, but also of a tapestry of surrounding volcanoes, creating an unforgettable adventure through this captivating volcanic terrain.

VICUÑA TREK (2 DAYS / 1 NIGHTS)

Day 1
Departure from Riobamba and Trail
  • Departure from the city of Riobamba
  • Drive to the entrance of the trail 6-7H
  • Arrival to the refuge, Observation of great views of the Andres, Tungurahua, Altar, Sangay, Chimborazo and Carihuairazo.
  • Descent to the beautiful valley of Abraspungo and observation of flora and fauna such as vicuñas and deer antlers.
  • Arrival at the Community Refuge at the base of the Carihuairazo and Chimborazo volcanoes.
Day 2
Observation and Descent to the Abraspungo Valley
  • Beginning of the 6 to 7 hour hike to the northeastern edge of Chimborazo.
  • Observation of flora and fauna of the zone like the chuquiragua and the arquitecta, herds of vicuñas.
  • In the afternoon we will arrive at the refuge
  • Return to the city of Riobamba

WHAT TO BRING?

  • Important Documents: Don’t forget to bring your passport or identification card. Keep them in a safe place, such as a zippered travel bag.
  • Warm clothing: insulated jacket, sweatshirt, long-sleeved shirts. Comfortable and durable hiking pants. Trekking socks (preferably merino wool or moisture wicking material). Hat or cap to protect from the sun. Lightweight gloves and hat to keep warm at high altitudes.
  • Suitable footwear: Waterproof trekking boots with good ankle support.
  • Backpack: Small, sturdy backpack to carry your essential belongings during the hike.
  • Camera and Binoculars: If you are a photography lover, don’t forget to bring your camera and binoculars.
  • Food and water: Don’t forget to bring water to keep you hydrated during the trek. Food for trekking: energy and nutritious food such as energy bars, nuts, dried fruits, dried fruits, instant soups, etc.
  • Sun Block and Sunglasses: Broad spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF to protect your skin from the strong high mountain sun. Sunglasses with UV protection to protect your eyes from sun glare in the snow.
